Thunderace!

Over Racing Project

Machined-from-Billet Goodness

One of the best thinks about making a motorcycle unique is tracking down custom parts that set your bike apart from every one else's.  This can be a bit more difficult if you own a Thunderace than, say, an R1 or CBR900RR.  Because the Thunderace was only imported into the United States for one year, trick parts are harder to come by than they are in Europe or Japan.

When I bought the YZF it already had a few parts from a company called Over Racing Project.  This company, I was told, makes custom parts primarily for Yamahas.   Unfortunately, they are in Japan and do not have any official distributers in the U.S.  The Over Racing parts that were already on the bike -- the fairing braces, instrument bezel, top triple clamp and countershaft sprocket cover -- were enough to pique my interest.  I was delighted when one of the Thunderace list members in Japan was selling off all his Over parts.  I bought a pair of frame sliders and a floating rear break kit.  It was too good to resist.

Want to learn more?  Check the Over Racing Project home page (if you can read Japanese).  I don't know what products Over still manufacturers for the Thunderace so you may need to keep an eye on the used parts market if you lust after any of these goodies.

I no longer have a Thunderace, so these pages are updated as I have time.  They are an ongoing work in progress and reflect my own personal thoughts.  If you have any questions or comments, please drop me a line.
