SS2R Exhaust

For many sport bike enthuastiasts, the first thing that gets changed on their bike is the exhaust.  YZF1000 owners are no different.  And if you follow the action on the Thunderace list, you'll see that there plenty of opinions on what works best.   Some prefer slip-ons because of the ease of installation.  With a slip-on you also retain Yamaha's EXUP valve to boost mid-range torque.  A full system dispenses with the EXUP in favor of lighter weight and a bit more top end horsepower.  With careful jetting you can greatly reduce the 4000 rpm flat spot some riders with full systems notice.

My bike has a Vance & Hines SS2R full 4-2-1 system.  It is was also re-jetted with a Factory jet kit, and breathes through a K&N air filter.  The whole package works remarkably well.  There is a minimal loss of power below 4000 rpm, and from there up it really comes into its own and takes off.  The top end is boosted about 5 hp, up to 132 according to V&H's dyno chart.

Want to learn more?  I have the V&H dyno chart available in .pdf format.  Or, check the Vance & Hines, Factory and K&N Web sites.  For other of exhausts and jet kits, check out my manufacturers and suppliers page.

I no longer have a Thunderace, so these pages are updated as I have time.  They are an ongoing work in progress and reflect my own personal thoughts.  If you have any questions or comments, please drop me a line.
